In many parts of the world, records management practitioners are well served with professional development opportunities through local chapters of ARMA International, ARMA Canada, the Records Management Association of Australasia (RMAA) or the Records Management Society (RMS) of the United Kingdom.
In Asia and the Pacific Rim, there is need to create a community of practice to share knowledge and explore ways and means to build a regional profession that meets international standards while serving local needs.
The Asia Pacific Institute of Records and Information Management (API RIM) exists to raise awareness, undertake research and development and provide a focal point for those interested or engaged in records management activities. The Institute also provides a source of learning and information for those who seek professional knowledge of how the management of multimedia recorded information resources underpins quality and innovation. Those who seek professional certification and wish to qualify for acceptance as a candidate for the six-part examination administered by the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM) will find API RIM to be a supportive community with world-wide network of leaders in the records and information management domains.
The ICRM is an independent body established as the official certifying body for ARMA International and the Nuclear Information and Records Management Association (NIRMA). Individual records managers must qualify in 3 of 7 areas and pass five parts before invitation to write the sixth, multiple case study part of the examination. An additional specialist designation is available to those working in the highly regulated, nuclear power industry.
API RIM is in a pre-launch phase. We welcome inquiries and expressions of interest through the contact form on this site. We seek corporate matching funds for grants to move toward full launch of selected project activities.
ARMA International invites review and comment on a draft for discussion, "Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles".
